Trees respire
slowly, carefully
I try to mimic their rhythms
Starting as they pause
precisely, purposefully
breathing in the spaces between.
I can feel you sighing too
In the spaces between neck and collarbone.
Oceans breathing
promptly, deeply
I try to mimic their steadiness
Goading myself to fall
absolutely, confidently
In the spaces between inhale and exhale.
I can feel us living
In the spaces between connected and separated.
