The door closes with a snap
And the entire world is gone.
Escape achieved, and a bittersweet taste
Careens over my tongue, tickles my throat
It gets into my very lungs.
I feel my eyes close softly
And a sigh push through my lips.
I draw the blinds, and step forward
To where he’s standing, waiting
In front of me
And sharing my gaze when
A thought passes through
Lazy and slow as dream thoughts do
He brushes his face past mine
Regained at last-a closeness of the past.
My dream is starting to fade
And a good thing, too
I’m sure that someone noticed I had gone
Slipped out for a minute-
Disappeared without a word
I sit up a bit straighter, and look around to see
I shake my head and yawn
But not before
I lock the door
behind me.
